naughty dog

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, here’s an interesting show that you might want to take time to check out. The artists that work for the video game company Naughty Dog (makers most recently of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves), have a show that’s appropriately called “Unleashed: The Art of Naughty Dog” that showcases these artists’ talents beyond some of the beautiful concept art that I’ve shown here in the past. The show is at the Gnomon Gallery in LA.

So the attempt to resurrect old franchises and movies continues, and I suppose that when you think about it this was bound to happen. I mean, all of us kids that were introduced to these movies and cartoons as kids are now making the movies. Sometimes this tendency to regurgitate the old can be depressing (see the Transformers and GI Joe movies), but every once in a while something comes around to make you smile like that little kid who saw it when it first came out…

kaloian

Kaloian Toshev is a 22yr old artist from Bulgaria who has a great sense of space and color. Most of his paintings are of women (a popular subject), but no two pieces appear the same. It appears that he has a pretty bright future, and hopefully we’ll see more of his stuff over here. Check out his site here for more of his work. Found via design fckr.

kranked

Just wanted to share another film that was included in this year’s Banff Film Festival. This one comes from the fine people at Radical Films and is titled Kranked – Revolved. It’s the typical adrenaline filled film, but has some amazing riding and great cinematography to make it stand out. The film that was in Banff was just a snipet of the full film, but it was enough to make me interested.

George R.R. Martin’s series A Song of Ice and Firehas captured the world of fantasy fiction’s attention, giving a genre that is used to manipulating a tired storyline over and over something fresh albeit dark. And as we await the fifth book of the series, the long anticipated A Dance with Dragons, we can also begin to look forward to the miniseries that is due from HBO. To wet that anticipation, they’ve just released one of the first screenshots from the upcoming pilot. Let’s hope it lives up to the books, and the quality that HBO has shown in some of its other projects in the past.

this too shall pass

Ok, I know that I’ve already posted a video of OK Go recently, and hell, I’ve even posted a video for this very song… but this was just too good to pass up. I especially dig the marbles on brio, oh the memories.

What’s up with car companies making really really sexy hybrids? Even the company behind the monster that is the Cayenne has thrown their hat in the ring with their new plug-in hybrid the Spyder 918. With a 0 to 100km/hr (hey they are germans after all) of 3.2 seconds, a top speed of 198mph, and a 98 mpg… the future is almost here. I just wish that I could afford it. Damn you, you crafty Deutchlanders. Found via Uncrate.

solo

Just got done watching the Banff Film Festival for 2010, and I’m now more inspired than ever. However, I can tell you that I will never do what was portrayed in my favorite film of the festival. Below is a trailer for that film, which is part of the first ascent series (apparently being broadcast outside of the United States and only available on disc later this summer) by Sender films. It follows the young climber from Sacramento Alex Honnold as he solo climbs some gigantic routes. If you’re not in the know, soloing in the world of climbing means that the kid has no protection including, no rope… ya, I told you I’d never do something like this. Just watching the film made me dizzy. Check it out.

bad company 2

With the newly released demo becoming the most widely downloaded demo in history, Battlefield Bad Company 2 is steadily building up steam for its March 2nd release. I’ll admit that I’m a sucker for the FPS and I’ll often procrastinate by sharing quality time with all the well behaved guys on Xbox live playing Modern Warfare 2, so I’m definitely looking forward to the change of pace that Bad Company will surely introduce.  You can check out the game for yourself here. See you on Live.

Well here is the best use of staples that I’ve seen this year. The french artist Baptiste Debombourg has decided to forgo paint for this fresco, and realize a beautiful piece of art with one of the more mundane objects in our everyday world. You can check her site here. Found via Apartment Therapy.
