summer edit

As I sit here checking the internets constantly in search of a good deal on an Ibis Mojo, my desire for summer to be here and be out on the trails mountain biking has hit a frenzied level after watching this video from Steve Tenuto. Good Music + Fun Biking = Great Way To Spend Your Friday Afternoon.

downhill

Here’s a video for your viewing pleasure. Having done some downhill skating back in the day I know what it’s like to be traveling at high speeds on a little piece of wood with rubber wheels, but I’ve always looked at this hill in Berkeley and shuddered at the thought of skating it. In fact, I didn’t know anyone would dare skate it until I was driving uphill one day and was passed by 4 downhillers…

Here’s a great video of something new and positive coming out of Oakland. Kids blinging out their bikes creatively.

180 South

Here’s a film that I’ve been waiting patiently for during the last 6 months. It follows a trip that Yvon Chouinard did to the tip of the South America that inspired to him to create a company like Patagonia with it’s focus on saving some of the last wild places in the world.

waves

Mpora has an amazing gallery of some of the scariest waves ever captured on film. Some have waves forming on waves and those smaller waves are over head… others are just plain dark mountains of water waiting to eat you. Go over and check out the full gallery here.

nomad

Well Santa Cruz Bicycles continues to up the anty on their line of bikes by giving their already great Nomad a carbon makeover. By their reckoning the bike has lost 1.25 lbs in weight while actually getting stronger. Sounds like their are only upsides to this change, and has me seriously wondering if I’m man enough to handle the crazy 160mm of suspension that this thing provides. It should be going on sale in a couple of months, but in the meantime you can start building your own custom config using their website and the present aluminum model (just remember to subtract the pounds from that estimated weight at the top). I love the bicycle industry. It’s one of those rare beasts that has a decent mixture of huge companies with the mega bucks, and smaller outfits that cater to the bicycle obsessed. One of those smaller outfits, Portland Design Works, comes to us from the great Northwest bike mecca and illustrates why those of us that have a mind for design support the little guy. You can check out their site here.

biknd

Having gone on several bike touring trips overseas, I’ve often wondered why bike transportation is so clunky. Apparently someone else has too, since the company Biknd has come out with a nice and light case called the Helium Case that inflates with a foot pump to keep your bike nice and secure. Apparently the case is only 9.5kg, which would have been nice on more than one bike trip that I can think of. It also collapses to a decent size so that when you get to your destination it won’t be as hard to stash it. Now if they would only lower that $600 barrier to entry, and if the airlines would only become reasonable with their oversized prices…

follow me

Color me excited, because I just found out that the guys behind my favorite bike film Seasons (and others such as The Collective and Roam) are about to come out with their latest film Follow me. Coming out in May on iTunes and DVD (where’s my Blu-Ray?!), the film looks amazing. I’m very tempted to check out their debut viewing in mid April at the Sea Otter classic down in Monterey… VERY tempted.

kranked

Just wanted to share another film that was included in this year’s Banff Film Festival. This one comes from the fine people at Radical Films and is titled Kranked – Revolved. It’s the typical adrenaline filled film, but has some amazing riding and great cinematography to make it stand out. The film that was in Banff was just a snipet of the full film, but it was enough to make me interested.
