With the impending E3 conference looming we’re getting more and more game publishers leaking information on their next projects. Among these is the third installment in the Killzone franchise, a surprisingly pretty fps for the PS3. So far, all that we know about the project is that some of the people behind the Uncharted games will be helping the Killzone 2 people to bring the game to fruition. Oh ya… and they’re planning on giving you the option of playing it in full 3-D. And there’s snow. So there’s that.

god of war
Apr 5
It’s only fitting that upon the recent release of God of War 3 that it’s protagonist, angst-ridden Kratos, should be found being angry in a renaissance painting (specifically Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson’s “Revolt In Cairo”). The game’s art direction is pretty amazing, but this takes it to another level of course. Apparently Kratos was born to be revolting in Cairo. The piece is part of Worth 1000′s photoshop, found via Kotaku.
naughty dog

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, here’s an interesting show that you might want to take time to check out. The artists that work for the video game company Naughty Dog (makers most recently of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves), have a show that’s appropriately called “Unleashed: The Art of Naughty Dog” that showcases these artists’ talents beyond some of the beautiful concept art that I’ve shown here in the past. The show is at the Gnomon Gallery in LA.
bad company 2

With the newly released demo becoming the most widely downloaded demo in history, Battlefield Bad Company 2 is steadily building up steam for its March 2nd release. I’ll admit that I’m a sucker for the FPS and I’ll often procrastinate by sharing quality time with all the well behaved guys on Xbox live playing Modern Warfare 2, so I’m definitely looking forward to the change of pace that Bad Company will surely introduce. You can check out the game for yourself here. See you on Live.

concept reach

I know that I’ve already done two posts on the upcoming Halo title, but Bungie just released a bunch of concept art for the new game and you know how much of a sucker I am for concept art. Some of these paintings are amazing and tell a story all by themselves, so I thought that I should share them even if it inches us closer to the saturation point for a game that doesn’t come out until the fall. Found via Kotaku.

The new issue of Game Informer has just come out with details of the upcoming shooter Halo Reach, discussing among other things that you’ll be a part of a squad of six different Spartans all with their own unique attributes. If shooters aren’t your thing, just move along, but based on the fact that the latest mega-shooter Modern Warfare 2 just passed the Billion dollar mark (Billion with a B) it’s getting harder and harder to ignore these huge media releases. I’m a game junkie, so I’m sold. Also check out the first full trailer for the game below.

fable III
Jan 12
There have been rumblings lately that Lionhead studios is about to release some actual footage of their upcoming game Fable III. With this in mind I thought that I’d give you a chance to check out some of the concept art that they’ve already released. Like Fable 2
, the third installment has some pretty talented artists employed to flesh out this virtual world.

Another year, another round of games. This year has a surprisingly large number of new titles coming out in the first quarter, one of which being the game Dark Void. What if Nicola Tesla never really died? What if instead he got sucked into the Bermuda Triangle, where as everyone knows, the aliens have made their Earth base? Well, soon you’ll be able to strap on a jetpack and find out. Aliens, Tesla, jet-packs, flying saucers… they seem to have just checked off a list of boyhood fantasies and then made a game around it.

unfinished swan

Recently impressing those in the know at the Game Developer’s Conference last year was Ian Dallas with his project Unfinished Swan. The concept is simple as you can see in this video, but the results on screen are pretty striking. The project is still in its first stages, but I already can’t wait to play it. You can check out their progress on their blog.

i am 8-bit
Dec 16
People of my generation, may be the first in history to be reminiscent over the video games of yore. The media is relatively young after all, and it really only hit its stride relatively recently when the Nintendo NES spread the word to the masses. Yes you can argue that Pong or whatever game that came before it was the first, but really, who gets wistful about pong? This being said, it would make sense that our generation would be the first to try and translate their early expreriences with games into pieces of art. So I present to you i am 8-bit, an art show that displays artist’s renditions of their favorite games or game moments of yore, giving a new appreciation for our imagination’s ability to turn clunky pixels on a screen into a vast world of surreal experiences in the mind. Here’s a link to a gallery of one of their show’s.
