Hey everyone, sorry about the hiatus. I’ve been working on a new design for the site, but realized that I can’t just neglect it while I’m doing that so I promise to keep posting. I decided to go with something that has a lot of color, and isn’t another video… So I’ve decided to show you an amazing artist named Francois Nielly who was born in Marseille and is now living in Paris. She does her work from black and white photos and uses a painting trowel instead of a brush. Check out her site here. Via Cool Hunter.

Kaloian Toshev is a 22yr old artist from Bulgaria who has a great sense of space and color. Most of his paintings are of women (a popular subject), but no two pieces appear the same. It appears that he has a pretty bright future, and hopefully we’ll see more of his stuff over here. Check out his site here for more of his work. Found via design fckr.

I know that I’ve already done two posts on the upcoming Halo title, but Bungie just released a bunch of concept art for the new game and you know how much of a sucker I am for concept art. Some of these paintings are amazing and tell a story all by themselves, so I thought that I should share them even if it inches us closer to the saturation point for a game that doesn’t come out until the fall. The new issue of Game Informer has just come out with details of the upcoming shooter Halo Reach, discussing among other things that you’ll be a part of a squad of six different Spartans all with their own unique attributes. If shooters aren’t your thing, just move along, but based on the fact that the latest mega-shooter Modern Warfare 2 just passed the Billion dollar mark (Billion with a B) it’s getting harder and harder to ignore these huge media releases. I’m a game junkie, so I’m sold. Also check out the first full trailer for the game below.

People of my generation, may be the first in history to be reminiscent over the video games of yore.  The media is relatively young after all, and it really only hit its stride relatively recently when the Nintendo NES spread the word to the masses.  Yes you can argue that Pong or whatever game that came before it was the first, but really, who gets wistful about pong?  This being said, it would make sense that our generation would be the first to try and translate their early expreriences  with games into pieces of art.  So I present to you i am 8-bit,  an art show that displays artist’s renditions of their favorite games or game moments of yore, giving a new appreciation for our imagination’s ability to turn clunky pixels on a screen into a vast world of surreal experiences in the mind. Owen Freeman’s sometimes ghostly watercolors evoke a scene like few others. His work can be seen in various magazines and periodicals, lending a striking visual companion to whatever writing he’s paired with. Some of his prints can also be had through Nucleus Gallery.

There’s something about Reagan Lodge’s style is both familiar and refreshing. I came across his stuff in one of the Flight anthologies. I guess I’m just a sucker for the graphic novel style.

HELP If you enjoy the audio artform that is the podcast, and even have a passing interest in video games, you should start doing like the cool kids and start listening to the great podcast by Robert Ashley entitled A Life Well Wasted. He goes into various topics and stories that swirl around the video game world, with the slick production values that you’ll find on This American Life. So, even if it’s not your cup of tea, you know someone else that will be into it (even if you don’t know it, they’re more pervasive than you could ever imagine). His latest is entitled Help, but be sure to check them all out.
