I think that I’ve mentioned Top Gear on here before, but just in case I haven’t I wanted to share part of one of the episodes that I just uncovered from 2007. Every season Jeremy, Hammond, and Cpt. Slow embark on a trip somewhere around the world, giving a hilarious tour of whatever beautiful scenery they happen to be in. This one is of their trip to the North Pole. The second part is after the break. Enjoy ya.

google TV
May 21
Announced yesterday, Google TV, is Google’s latest attempt to infiltrate a new market. This time your living room is the target. Google TV is basically a software platform that will be implemented by different hardware manufacturers (like Logitech’s machine seen below), that will attempt to integrate your tv media consumption by controlling your different pieces of hardware, such as your DVR, and combining it with a little something called the internet. It could be a powerful platform if it’s able to crack the nut that so many companies have failed to. Check out Gizmodo’s article on it here.

For all of you out there privileged enough to have HBO, I’m sure you’ve heard that the spiritual successor to the amazing Band of Brothers will soon start airing. And if you haven’t heard, it will. All of the critics have been raving so far, so I’m relieved that it lives up to it’s older sibling, since in my opinion Band was the best thing to happen to the television since color was introduced (no, I still haven’t seen The Wire yet). Can’t wait to start watching this.

George R.R. Martin’s series A Song of Ice and Firehas captured the world of fantasy fiction’s attention, giving a genre that is used to manipulating a tired storyline over and over something fresh albeit dark. And as we await the fifth book of the series, the long anticipated A Dance with Dragons, we can also begin to look forward to the miniseries that is due from HBO. To wet that anticipation, they’ve just released one of the first screenshots from the upcoming pilot. Let’s hope it lives up to the books, and the quality that HBO has shown in some of its other projects in the past.
samsung 9000

A while ago I was looking for a TV, and I was split between those offered by Samsung (their LCD’s) and those from Panasonic (Plasmas) and other than the obvious difference of LCD vs. Plasma I was concerned with the look of the TV (it does end up sitting pretty prominently in your living room after all). At that time Samsung didn’t really blow me away with its red-tinted looks and I went with the Panasonic. Now if this upcoming LED LCD from Samsung was available, I don’t think that I would have been able to resist its charms. On top of some superfluous add-ons (in my opinion anyway) such as 3-D capabilities, this TV does just about everything but serve you espresso (that’s what the Slayer is for) and it does so while being the best looking TV ever made…

To those of you who feel that visual effects are only for explosions and spacecraft, I present to you the reality of what you watch. Super interesting stuff, prompting the question: What is real?

legend of the seeker

It’s been my experience that everyone has a dirty little secret. Some of us read US Weekly, some really like toy trains, and some watch really bad reality TV. Mine, since I was young, has been the fantasy genre. I can count on one hand the number fantasy novels that I would say are actually good literature, and yet I’ve read far more than a handful in my lifetime. Formulaic? Yes, in general they are. Corny? Oh the heights of corniness I have seen. Fun? Yes. This and the sense of escapism that they bring makes me keep coming back to the genre. It is with this being said, that I present to you Legend of the Seeker. It’s a fantasy series based on the books of Terry Goodkind, that follows the prototypical Hero through the gorgeous landscape of New Zealand (oddly I think that I’ve seen this before), as he fights baddies with beautiful women and a wise wizard. The acting? Questionable. The story? Good to passable to laughable. Do I watch it every week despite all of this. Yes.
lost art

Taking a cue from the previously mentioned i am 8-bit, Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles currently has a show of art that has been inspired by the television series LOST. As fans of the upcoming last season patiently wait for closure on the out of control story arc, they can now somewhat satiate themselves with these awesome pieces. Sometimes mysterious, sometimes beautiful, sometimes suspenseful, always fun, it will be a somber day when we know the answers in one of the best series of the ’00′s.
